Peaceful countryside retreat and guesthouse in the foothills of Snowdonia

Rooms

Plas Dolguog offers luxury accommodation in a 17th-century mansion with distinctively themed rooms, where guests enjoy a relaxed, independent stay with self check-in. The Wagner Suite provides a king-size bed, separate sitting room, and a dressing room with a roll-top bath. Each room, including the Britten and Puccini rooms, features individually chosen British and French antiques and has an en suite bathroom.

Dining

Breakfast is included each morning as a freshly prepared breakfast hamper basket featuring local produce. Plas Dolguog does not currently operate a restaurant or bar unless an event is on the same night as a stay (open events only, no access to private events such as weddings). Guests can enjoy the self-service Honesty Bar in the Music Room. Sharing platters are available by pre-order only.

Location

Nestled just a mile from Machynlleth, Plas Dolguog overlooks the beautiful Dyfi Valley and is close to the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. The property offers peaceful gardens, free Wi-Fi, parking, and direct access to the Mid Wales countryside. A stay with some issues

dusty surfaces impersonal service
The location was good and it was a quick drive to nearby attractions.
The room wasn't properly cleaned. I found hairs in the shower and dust on surfaces. getting assistance was a hassle. I had to leave voicemails since no one answered directly. It felt a little impersonal.

charming hotel with character

peaceful location basic drinks ample parking
i appreciated the location, which offers a peaceful and tranquil experience. The honesty bar was stocked with basic drinks, though i did not use it. The hotel provides plenty of parking spaces . Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of options.
i had issues with the heating system. it stopped working soon after i arrived and did not restart before my departure the next day. additional blankets were unavailable in the room that night.

minor issues detracted from the experience

missing key unserviced room
the room key was missing upon arrival we received the master key but the door to the common veranda lacked a lock staff assured us it was safe but this felt inadequate with our valuables inside also the room was not serviced the following day despite the price i paid this oversight was disappointing

Acceptable , but certain aspects need attention

non-functioning tv full bin
The location provides a very peaceful stay.
The TV in my room didn't work , and staff didn't fix it . I also noticed the bin in the room was full with rubbish , including empty cider cans. One of the bedside lights did not function either.

A balanced experience

beautiful building clear instruction cute room room cleaning fresh mugs subpar stay
The building is undeniably beautiful. Instructions were clear for accessing the room. My room was also cute with a bonus of a balcony. it had a great view. The breakfast basket was delicious!
The price made me expect a room cleaning after the first night. I would have also appreciated a fresh pair of mugs. It was hard to get hold of anyone if I needed assistance. I had to leave voicemails. It was a subpar stay considering the cost.
