Review summary
Based on recent reviews
Powered by AI
Hotel Penwig enjoys a superb location, with the beach right across the road and a lovely outside seating area overlooking the harbour. Many guests have enjoyed rooms with amazing sea views, especially from room 7 with its four windows. The rooms are generally considered adequate, and while some have noted the lack of a dedicated car park and noise issues from the bar, the hotel offers excellent value, a nice breakfast and an ideally situated base in New Quay.

A good coastal experience!

sea viewcentral locationlovely staffdelicious food
The hotel faces the sea, providing amazing views of the bay. I watched dolphins from my room. Its central spot makes the beach, harbor, and nearby shops very accessible. Exploring the town was a true joy. The staff were lovely, and the food was AMAZING!!!
There were many messages before arrival asking me to check in repeatedly, even after I did so online. This was somewhat confusing.
Service
9/10
The staff was always friendly and ready to assist guests with all needs. They created a relaxed environment. One staff member helped prepare special allergy-friendly meals for the children. Everyone felt welcome and cared for.
Dining
9/10
The restaurant offers a range of dishes. It caters to various dietary needs, including vegan and vegetarian options. The staff are very helpful with complex orders. They ensure everyone has a satisfying dining experience.
Rooms
8/10
The room provided was clean and well-equipped. It had many plug sockets and USB ports, very useful for charging devices. The bed was comfy, and amenities included tea and coffee. This made mornings especially nice.
Location

The hotel overlooks the beach and harbour. It is close to many shops, cafes, and restaurants. The outdoor seating area offers a beautiful view. One can relax while watching the harbor activity.

the check-in was quick. the suite i got, a family room, was surprisingly nice. the duvet was thick, and the pillows were high quality.
i had issues with messages before i arrived. i sent messages several days before my arrival, and i got no response. there were no instructions about unloading luggage because parking is only for staff. the rooms are somewhat small and noisy because i heard people moving around in the room upstairs from 6 am.

sea view and dolphin spotting

sea viewperfect steakcold draft
i had a fantastic room with three windows, i even shared it with my dog. the view of the dolphins right from the bed was amazing. I was lucky enough to see them. breakfast was good. the steaks i had in the evening were cooked perfectly.
Room number one was cold and drafty, even i had the heating on full. the outside security door didnt shut automatically. It was sometimes ajarwith a cold draft. the internal door wasnt suppressed, so it closed loudly. This disturbed my wife and me through the night and early morning.

colin and all the other staff were lovely. gemma was friendly and motivated, she showed me the room. the staff were cute and nothing was too much trouble for anyone.
Rooms

the room was perfect, i have stayed in many hotels and b and bs. this hotel is the first one i've found that has decent places to hang clothing and a suitable dressing table. it even has a mirror, hairdryer shelf, and a close plug socket.
Facilities
8/10
the hotel is right on the sea front, so it is ideal for dolphin spotting. there is no onsite parking here but i used the car park around the corner. communication from the start was excellent and check in and out online was very easy.
